Common questions

Can I use human hair clippers on my dog?

Not well. Pet clippers are built for thicker, denser coat and run cooler under load. Human clippers stall, pull hair and overheat quickly.

Clippers or grinder for nails?

Clippers are faster; grinders are safer on black nails and leave a smoother edge. Many owners use clippers for the bulk and a grinder to finish.

How do I keep blades working?

Brush hair out after every use, oil the blade, and use a blade disinfectant spray between animals. Blunt blades pull hair, which is what makes dogs hate clipping.

Should I bathe before or after clipping?

Bathe and dry fully first. Clipping a dirty coat blunts blades rapidly and gives an uneven finish. See shampoos and conditioners.
