Deworming, and how often it actually needs doing

Intestinal worms are near-universal in Indian puppies and kittens, and several of them pass to humans — which makes deworming a household health measure, not just a pet one. We stock 56 dewormers for dogs and cats as tablets, suspensions and drops.

Puppies and kittens need it early

Deworm at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks, then monthly until six months. Many are born with worms transmitted from the mother, so treatment starts before weaning.

Adults, every three months

Four times a year for most dogs and cats. Pets that hunt, scavenge or go outdoors regularly may need it more often — ask a vet.

Dose by weight, exactly

Underdosing leaves worms alive and drives resistance. Weigh your pet rather than estimating, and use the appropriate size tablet for that weight band.

Common questions

How often should I deworm my dog?

Every three months for a healthy adult. Puppies need it far more frequently — fortnightly from two weeks to twelve weeks, then monthly to six months.

Do indoor cats need deworming?

Yes, though less often. Fleas transmit tapeworm, and worm eggs travel indoors on shoes. Two to four times a year is typical for a strictly indoor cat.

Can worms pass to humans?

Some can, particularly roundworm and hookworm, and children are most at risk. Regular deworming, prompt stool disposal and handwashing after handling pets all reduce it.

How do I know if my pet has worms?

Visible segments near the tail, a pot-bellied puppy, weight loss despite good appetite, or scooting. Many infected pets show nothing at all, which is why routine treatment matters more than waiting for signs.

My pet vomited the tablet. What now?

If it comes up within an hour, redose. If later, wait and consult before repeating — check with our vet rather than guessing at a double dose.
