Hyderabad's monsoon lasts from June to September and a dog still needs walking through all of it. The problem is not the rain itself, it is what a repeatedly soaked coat does to skin over a few weeks. We stock 5 raincoats, boots and monsoon accessories.

A dry coat prevents skin problems

Damp fur held against skin in humid weather grows yeast and hot spots. Keeping a dog dry on the walk is easier than treating what follows.

Dry properly after every walk

Even in a raincoat, paws and belly get wet. Towel down to the skin, particularly ear folds and between the pads, before the dog settles.

Boots take practice

No dog accepts boots the first time. Several short indoor sessions with treats, over a week or two, before you rely on them outdoors.

Monsoon streets carry sewage runoff and chemicals. Rinse paws when you get in — dogs lick them, and that is the route in.

Common questions

Do dogs really need raincoats in Hyderabad?

Short-coated and small dogs benefit most, and any dog walked daily through the monsoon does. It is about preventing skin problems from a repeatedly damp coat rather than about the dog feeling cold.

How do I size a dog raincoat?

Back length from collar to tail base is the primary measurement, then chest girth. It should not restrict shoulder movement.

My dog hates boots. Any tips?

Two at a time indoors, short sessions, plenty of treats, over a couple of weeks. Most dogs walk oddly at first — that passes.

What about paws after a wet walk?
