    Harnesses for dogs and cats

    A harness spreads pulling force across the chest instead of the throat, which is why it is the safer choice for pullers, puppies and flat-faced breeds. We stock 73 harnesses in no-pull, step-in, vest, hiking and cat styles.

    Front-clip stops pulling

    A lead attached at the chest turns a pulling dog gently back toward you. It changes most pullers within a single walk, without any pressure on the neck.

    Two fingers under every strap

    Looser and a frightened dog reverses out of it. Tighter and it rubs, particularly where straps sit behind the front legs.

    Escape artists need three points

    A three-buckle or double-attachment harness plus a backup clip to the collar stops the reversing manoeuvre that gets dogs loose on a busy road.

    Cats need cat-specific designs

    Cats flatten and reverse out of dog harnesses easily. Use an H-style or vest harness made for cats and introduce it indoors over several days.

    How do I measure my dog for a harness?

    Measure girth right behind the front legs at the widest point of the ribcage. Buy to that number — most charts are built around girth rather than weight.

    Is a harness better than a collar?

    For pullers, puppies, small breeds and brachycephalic dogs, yes. For a dog that already walks on a loose lead, a well-fitted collar is fine.

    My dog escapes his harness. What should I use?

    Tighten to two fingers first — most escapes are fit. If it persists, move to a three-buckle design and clip a second lead to the collar as backup.

    Can I leave a harness on all day?

    Better not to. Straps rub over hours and can catch on furniture. Put it on for walks and take it off indoors.
